Thirteen people reported missing since June 2024 have been found alive in Honduras.

Tegucigalpa.- At least 13 people reported missing since June 17, 2024, in the Caribbean region of Honduras have been found alive, said Miguel Martínez, spokesman for the Ministry of Security, on Tuesday.

According to Martinez's version, the thirteen people, four women and nine men, were found "alive on a pier on the shores of a beach in Tela, Atlántida", in the Crique Las Marías village sector

The group was abandoned by an identified criminal organization linked to drug trafficking activities, which is under investigation, the source added.

He also noted that "intense police pressure" allowed the release of the thirteen people, who were transferred to the Metropolitan Police Headquarters of Tela, where they were receiving medical attention.

The captivity in which the thirteen people remained, who were allegedly deprived of their liberty by a heavily armed group of individuals who arrived by sea to the village of Crique Las Marías on June 17, 2024.

The case is linked to the death of the brother of Honduran José Rafael Sosa, who was extradited to the United States at the request of the Southern District of Florida for drug trafficking offenses.

Sosa, captured on March 5, 2017, in Jutiapa, Atlántida, was being held in the National Penitentiary, north of Tegucigalpa.
