More than 8,000 Hondurans have been deported so far in 2025.

  • INTRANT - BANNER 720X90

Tegucigalpa.- More than 8,000 Hondurans, 11.7% of them minors, have been deported to their country so far in 2025, representing a 1.6% increase compared to 2024, according to figures from the National Migration Institute (INM) of Honduras.

Official statistics indicate that 133 fewer people were deported to Honduras last year than the 8,174 returned between January and March 13, 2025.

Of these deportations, the United States has sent back 3,375 Hondurans, 389 of whom are children, including some unaccompanied, according to the INM report.

Guatemalan authorities have also returned 3,308 undocumented Hondurans, 707 of whom are minors, he added.

Additionally, Mexico deported 1,462 people this year, compared to 1,908 in the same period in 2024, representing a 23.4% decrease, according to the INM.

Another 29 undocumented Hondurans were deported from Gabon, Guadeloupe, and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Of the deported Hondurans, 87.9%, some 7,188, entered the country by air, while 12.1% (986) did so by land, the institution emphasized.

Of those deported, 6,583 (80.5%) were adults, i.e., 5,368 men and 1,215 women. The number of minors returned in 2025 totaled 1,591, representing 19.5% of the total.

Every year, hundreds of people from Honduras attempt to emigrate, fleeing violence and poverty, two of the biggest problems affecting the country.

According to human rights organizations, minors seeking to reach the United States do so in the hope of reuniting with relatives or escaping the violence they experience in their home countries.
