The US Government will not double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%, despite the fact that President Donald Trump had announced it this Tuesday in reprisal by the Canadian province of Ontario's intention to apply a surcharge to all electricity exports to the U.S.

This day, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick had a phone conversation that made Trump change his mind, according to confirmed his chief business advisor, Pete Navarro.

On the local CNBC program Closing Bell: Overtime, Navarro commented that Lutnick "He did a beautiful job negotiating that.". On the eve, Ford made official a 25% surcharge on electricity that Ontario exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota.

However, in a joint statement, Ford and Lutnick said they had a "productive conversation about the economic relationship" between the two countries, which changed the situation. In fact, they agreed to a meeting for this Thursday in Lutnick.

Hours earlier, on his own social network, Trump he asserted what Canada "abuses tariffs" and promised that his nation will have it all back by April.

Trump imposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico at the beginning of last February, then delayed them for a month, imposed them again and then suspend them again.
