Washington.– U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday sent the nominations of his ambassadors to Chile, the Dominican Republic, and the Organization of American States (OAS) to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.
Confirmation of government posts is a procedure that senior officials in the country must go through in order to take office. After appearing in person before the relevant committees, which send a recommendation report to the Upper House, each nominee must receive the support of a simple majority of senators.
The president chose Brandon Judd as ambassador to Chile. According to a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, they have worked together for the past nine years, and the candidate, who previously chaired the border patrol union, helped him "develop and implement border security policies."
As ambassador to the Dominican Republic, he chose Leah Campos, who was an advisor for the Western Hemisphere on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is the sister-in-law of the current Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy.
And for the post of permanent representative to the OAS, he appointed Leandro Rizzuto, founder of the small personal care appliance company Conair, who was consul in Bermuda during the Republican's first term in the White House (2017-2021).
