Holy Sunday.- He Senator from the Duarte province, Franklin Romero, reintroduced his bill seeking to grant a special pension to minor children of women victims of femicide.
He said the initiative seeks to ensure that children and adolescents orphaned by the death of their parents receive a pension by law.
After condemning the death and subsequent suicide of partners and ex-partners, he explained that this legislation will provide protection to children and adolescents, who are left unprotected and in vulnerable conditions, becoming indirect victims of these acts of violence.
"We have submitted this, and we have been talking about it every chance we get, so many times that we have even given up standing here and talking about the draft bill and initiatives, because really, as some fellow senators say, they are getting lost along the way, and the current laws are not being given the follow-up they deserve," Romero said.
He also referred to the submission of the draft bill on telematic measures, specifically in light of the problem we have with femicides, to prevent men from reaching women and killing them.
I applaud and salute the initiative of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, which announced the creation of a special pension program for children and adolescents orphaned by femicide.
"That's great, because we've been working on that, and we have this initiative here, which, following the president's announcement, is in line with what we've been working on," he said.
He noted that the bill establishing a Specific pension for minor children of women who died as victims of femicide in the Dominican Republic, ensures that children and adolescents are left unprotected in the face of these tragedies.
He was categorical in saying that Femicides constitute the most serious form of gender violence, where the Dominican Republic is among the Latin American countries with the highest rates of this type of crime annually.
