Pacheco believes the United States will lift the veto on Central Romana

Holy Sunday.- He President of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, welcomed the measure of the United States Government, restore sugar imports of the Central Romana to the United States.

Pacheco stated that this is a measure that benefits the Dominican Republic, especially the sugar sector, and also strengthens trade relations between the two nations.

"About two years ago, a committee of representatives addressed the U.S. State Department, requesting, in a document, that it lift its veto on Central Romana, believing it was a mistake," said Alfredo Pacheco.

Last week, after more than two years of veto, The United States Government has lifted restrictions on the Central Romana Corporation., which prevented the Dominican Republic from exporting sugar to that country.

The impediment to Central Romana was lifted through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which prevented the Dominican company from exporting sugar to the USA.

It is recalled that in January 2023, the Chamber of Deputies approved in a single reading a resolution in which the legislative body expressed its disagreement with the decision of the United States Customs and Border Protection Office regarding the veto order against the Dominican company Central Romana Corporation, LTD, and therefore asked the government of that country to withdraw said sanction.

On November 23, 2022, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers detained shipments of raw sugar and sugar-based products produced in the Dominican Republic by Central Romana.
