Danilo Medina Sanchez was born on November 10th of 1951 in Arroyo Cano, municipality of Bohechío, in the province of San Juan, south of the Dominican RepublicHe is the eldest of eight siblings, including Lucía Medina, and his parents were Juan Pablo Medina and Amelia Sánchez.
From an early age, Medina demonstrated his inclination towards studies. He completed his primary education at the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez Public School and completed his secondary education at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña High School, obtaining a bachelor's degree in Commercial Sciences. In 1968, he joined the Democratic Association of Sanjuaneros Students (ADES), and in 1970 he founded the San Juan section of the Nationalist Student Revolutionary Front (FREN), a student organization with a PRD orientation.
In 1972, he moved to Santo Domingo to pursue higher education at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), where he enrolled in Chemical Engineering. He later enrolled in the School of Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1985 with magna cum laude honors.
Danilo Medina's political career
His foray into politics began at the UASD, where he was a member of the Democratic Socialist University Front (FUSD). In 1973, after the founding of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) by Professor Juan Bosch, Medina joined the new political organization.
Over the years, he established himself as one of the key figures of the PLD, occupying various positions in public administration. His leadership and political strategy allowed him to become a key player within the party.

Danilo Medina was democratically elected as the 71st constitutional president of the Dominican Republic on May 16, 2012, after winning the presidential elections of that year. He assumed office on August 16, 2012, with Margarita Cedeño de Fernández as vice president.
During his first term (2012-2016), his government implemented significant reforms in key sectors such as education, economy and infrastructure. In 2016, he was re-elected for a second term (2016-2020), remaining an influential figure in the Dominican political landscape until the end of his administration.

Danilo Medina married Cándida Montilla Espinal, a psychology graduate and medical student, on May 29, 1987. The couple has three daughters: Candy Sibely, Vanessa and Ana Paula.
