Quito, Ecuador.- At least six people were injured Wednesday when a suspension bridge collapsed and they fell into a fast-flowing river in Ecuador, where firefighters and security forces are still searching for more people who may have fallen into the water.
The Gonzalo Icaza Cornejo Bridge, located on the Daule River, collapsed for reasons still unknown, according to a preliminary report from the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR).
The infrastructure served to connect the towns of Magro and Nobol, located in the coastal province of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil.
At least three vehicles traveling across the bridge collapsed, and the only people rescued so far managed to escape alive and were taken to Daule Hospital.
