Santo Domingo. — Operations at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) have been normalized following the power outage that affected the terminal last Sunday for more than nine hours, reported Luis José López, Director of Communications of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom).
"Operations at Las Américas International Airport have been normalized after a power outage of more than nine hours occurred yesterday. This outage affected 47 flights and approximately 5,000 passengers who could not reach their destination," explained López.
The Communications Director added that, although the airport's emergency generator system remained operational, the failure occurred due to a circuit breaker, a piece of equipment responsible for distributing the electrical load throughout the building, which did not function correctly.
"Although the energy was maintained at all times in the Dominican Republic, as well as the emergency generator system that the airport has, the section switch was not working correctly, so it was not possible to energize the main building," he indicated.
To restore the supply, two emergency generators were hired and connected in two stages to replace the faulty equipment.
