In April and May, Soto recorded a mere .130 average and a .493 OPS with RISP, figures that placed him among the worst in the league during that period. His poor performance fueled the narrative that he wasn't performing in close games, even though his overall statistics remained solid. The landscape changed radically starting in July. In that month, Soto raised his average to ".292 with an OPS of .993", and in August he exploded with a ".391 average and a huge OPS of 1.236" in those situations. Since the All-Star Game, he is among the top five MLB hitters with runners in scoring position, accumulating more than 400 additional OPS points compared to the first half.
