Vaguada will continue generating showers this afternoon in several provinces

Santo Domingo. - According to the forecast of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), a trough will continue to generate showers, thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts in towns in the northeast, southeast, northwest, Cibao Valley and the Central Mountain Range, that is, in the provinces: Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Elías Piña, Dajabón, among other areas. At nightfall, these precipitations will gradually disappear, giving way to a sky with scattered clouds.

On Wednesday, from the early hours of the morning, some showers and possible thunderstorms will be observed in towns on the north coast, such as: La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat and Puerto Plata. After midday, significant increases in cloudiness are expected, which will bring heavy downpours, intense thunderstorms and occasional wind gusts, associated with the trough aloft that will combine with an active tropical wave that will affect the country. These precipitations will be observed especially in the provinces: La Altagracia, El Seibo, La Romana, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Peravia, Azua, Santiago, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Independencia and Bahoruco.

Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico:

Hurricane Gabrielle is located about 485 kilometers east/northeast of the Bermuda islands. It is moving northeast at about 20 km/h. Its maximum sustained winds remain at about 220 km/h with stronger gusts around it.

We report a tropical wave located halfway between the Lesser Antilles and the Cape Verde islands. It has a medium probability of cyclonic development in 48 hours of 30% and 80% for the next 7 days, being likely to form a tropical depression between the middle and end of this week.

We are also monitoring a tropical wave located about 200 km east of the Lesser Antilles. This has a 10% chance of cyclonic development over the next 2 days, while at 7 days, 50%.

Due to geographical positions and expected trajectories, we continuously monitor these weather systems.

Temperatures: the minimum will be between 23 °C and 25 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.

Summary: A trough will continue to generate showers and thunderstorms in several provinces this afternoon until the early hours of the night. Tomorrow, an active tropical wave will add its effects to those of the upper-level trough to generate a notable increase in precipitation; heavy showers, intense electrical storms, and occasional wind gusts are expected in a large part of the country. Meteorological alerts in effect due to possible flooding.

On Thursday, the active tropical wave and trough will maintain a very humid and unstable environment. Therefore, from early morning, scattered showers with thunderstorms and wind gusts will be generated towards the southeast, the Central Mountain Range, and the southwest. In the afternoon, moderate to heavy showers with electrical storms and wind gusts are expected towards the northwest, north, southwest, and the Central Mountain Range. At night, the rains will predominate towards the coasts of the country.
