Aitana Bonmatí and Dembélé win The Best award as best footballers of the year

Doha.— Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmatí and French forward Ousmane Dembélé were recognized this Tuesday with the The Best 2025 award, given by FIFA to the best footballers of the year, during a ceremony held in Doha.

Bonmatí, player of FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, became the first footballer to win three consecutive times this award, reaffirming her dominance in world women’s football. At 27 years old, she was a key player for the Blaugrana team to maintain its hegemony in Spanish football and reach the Champions League final, as well as contributing to Spain’s runner-up finish in the last European Championship. The Catalan footballer surpassed her teammate Alexia Putellas and the also Spanish international Mariona Caldentey, currently at Arsenal, in the voting. In a recorded message, Bonmatí thanked the recognition and congratulated the rest of the award winners, appearing with a crutch after the fibula fracture suffered recently with the Spanish national team.

Dembélé, Best Male Player

In the men’s category, The Best award went to Ousmane Dembélé, attacker for Paris Saint-Germain, who crowned an exceptional year after having previously been awarded the Ballon d’Or. The 28-year-old French footballer surpassed Kylian Mbappé, from Real Madrid, and the Spaniard Lamine Yamal, from Barcelona, in the voting. Dembélé was decisive in PSG’s historic season, a team with which he won the Ligue 1, the French Cup, the Champions League and the European Super Cup.

Luis Enrique, Best Coach

The Spaniard Luis Enrique Martínez, PSG coach, was chosen as the best men’s football coach, after leading the Parisian club to its first Champions League title. The Asturian succeeded Italian Carlo Ancelotti in the award and surpassed Hansi Flick and Arne Slot in the vote. Luis Enrique was unable to attend the gala due to the preparation for the Intercontinental Cup final, so the award was received by his assistant Rafel Pol.

Team of the Year

In the ideal eleven of the year, three footballers from Spanish LaLiga stood out: Pedri González and Lamine Yamal, from Barcelona, and Jude Bellingham, from Real Madrid. PSG was the club with the greatest representation in the ideal team, a reflection of its dominance in the season.
