Washington.– United States Under Secretary of State Christopher Landau called the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, “a great event” for Mexico, the United States, and Latin America.
The boss was killed during an operation carried out by the Mexican Army in the municipality of Tapalpa, in the state of Jalisco, after intelligence work coordinated between Mexican and US authorities. Through his social media, Landau congratulated the Mexican security forces for the operation and highlighted that this event represents a significant advance in bilateral cooperation against transnational organized crime. However, the official acknowledged that after the operation, violent incidents and blockades were recorded in different areas, presumably as a reaction from criminal groups. Despite this, he reiterated the importance of maintaining coordination between both countries to strengthen regional security. We recommend reading:The times El Mencho was imprisoned and released before his death
