They will close a section of the Malecón for the National Carnival Parade in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.– A section of George Washington Avenue, on the Malecón of Santo Domingo, will remain closed from this weekend due to the celebration of the National Carnival Parade, the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic informed.

Authorities indicated that the closure will begin on Friday at 10:00 p.m. on the section between Avenida Máximo Gómez and Calle Palo Hincado, and will remain in effect until the end of the event.

Also, from midnight on Saturday there will be a total closure of George Washington Avenue between Avenida Abraham Lincoln and Palo Hincado Street, a measure that will extend until Monday at 5:00 in the morning to facilitate the assembly and development of the parade. The traditional parade will be held on Sunday at the Malecón in Santo Domingo, with the participation of troupes and representative characters from the carnival of different provinces of the country. To ensure safety during the activity, nearly 900 members of military, police, and transit agencies will be deployed in the area, including personnel from the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic, the National Police of the Dominican Republic, and the General Directorate of Transit and Ground Transportation Safety (Digesett). In addition, about 300 members of rescue organizations will provide assistance during the event, for which eight first aid stations will be installed at strategic points along the Malecón. The authorities will also set up two special tents to assist lost children and offer immediate assistance to families attending the parade.
