Puerto Plata.- The Collegiate Court of the Judicial District of Puerto Plata sentenced baseball player Wander Franco, accused of abuse and exploitation of a 16-year-old minor, to two years of suspended imprisonment. In the same case, the minor's mother was sentenced to 10 years of effective imprisonment.
Franco was arrested on January 1, 2024, by the Gender Violence Victims Assistance Unit in Puerto Plata. Subsequently, the authorities imposed a less severe coercive measure on him, which allowed him to obtain provisional freedom.

In November 2024, he was arrested again, this time for his alleged participation in a fight that occurred in San Juan de la Maguana, as confirmed by the National Police. Since August 2023, the athlete stopped playing in the Major Leagues, initially being placed on administrative leave by the Tampa Bay Rays and the MLB. He was then placed on the restricted list, which left him without receiving his salary.
