The attacker who this Sunday crashed a vehicle against the doors of a Mormon church in the US state of Michigan and then opened fire on people has been identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, a 40-year-old Iraq war veteran, reported The New York Post.
According to his mother's social media posts, the perpetrator of the attack was a U.S. Marine veteran and served in Iraq between 2004 and 2008. Police sources confirmed that Sanford, who died at the scene in a shootout with security forces, is the main suspect.
Furthermore, it was reported that authorities found several improvised explosive devices at a church facility.
The attack occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Genesee County. According to local police, two people have died and at least 10 were injured by gunfire. In addition, it is detailed that the shooter set fire to the building, causing a huge fire that destroyed almost the entire church.
