Spain.- The Spanish Police arrested seven members of a gang that between August and September stole more than 1,100 terrace chairs, worth about $69,000, in Madrid and Talavera de la Reina, the Madrid Superior Police Headquarters announced this Wednesday, local media report.
The investigation began two months ago, when agents received several complaints from restaurant owners who claimed that they had found fewer chairs on their terraces than they had left the night before.
The group acted at dawn, when the furniture was piled up on the public road. First they cut the chains that protected them and then loaded the chairs into a van to escape. Later they sold their loot in Spain and abroad, for example in Morocco and Romania.
