The Chinese government expressed its "serious concern" and "firm opposition" on Monday to Israel's recognition of the separatist Somali region of Somaliland as an independent state, while reaffirming its support for the Mogadishu Executive.
In a press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated today that, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, Somaliland is an "inseparable part" of Somalia's territory.
"China firmly supports Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and opposes any act that seeks to divide its territory," the spokesperson asserted.
