Santo Domingo.– The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, led the start of the first national generation of training in artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at university professors who will act as multipliers of knowledge, marking the formal starting point of the Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CEIA).
The initiative, resulting from the strategic agreement signed with NVIDIA, is coordinated by the Ministry of the Presidency (MINPRE) along with the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) and the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC), and is part of the National Initiative for Sovereign Artificial Intelligence.
The CEIA has been conceived as an academic and technological hub for advanced training, applied research, and innovation, open to students, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Its implementation consolidates the governmental vision of turning the Dominican Republic into a regional benchmark in the development and strategic application of artificial intelligence.
The first promotion is made up of teachers from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and ITLA, who will receive specialized training in applied artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity and high-performance computing.
Minister Paliza highlighted that this first generation of teachers represents a milestone in the technological transformation of the country: "artificial intelligence is not a passing trend; it is the new language of development. With this strategic alliance we are building national capacities, training Dominican talent and laying the foundations of a sovereign digital infrastructure that will guarantee competitiveness, innovation and opportunities for future generations", Paliza affirmed.
The rector of ITLA, Jimmy Rosario Bernard, highlighted that the participation of six teachers from the institution in this first cohort strengthens the strategic role of the institute within the national innovation ecosystem.
“This first generation of teachers and the launch of the Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence aimed at consolidating a public policy of sustainable digital transformation”, said Rosario Bernard.
The project also contemplates the development of sovereign digital infrastructure, including the implementation of a National AI Factory and the strengthening of the State Data Center in alliance with NAP del Caribe, as well as the execution of certifications and academic programs in coordination with the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute.
