Every February 21st, International Tourist Guide Day is commemorated, a date dedicated to recognizing the work of professionals who, with vocation, knowledge, and passion, become cultural ambassadors and promoters of the historical and natural heritage of each nation.
In the Dominican Republic, tour guides play a fundamental role in one of the most important sectors of the economy: tourism. Their job not only consists of accompanying national and foreign visitors, but also in transmitting the history, traditions, and natural riches of the country, contributing to strengthen the cultural identity and the experience of those who visit it.
Representatives of the sector highlighted that the tour guide is a direct link between the destination and the visitor, responsible for offering truthful information, promoting respect for heritage, and ensuring safe and organized tours.
"The guide is the one who tells the story behind each monument, each beach and each cultural corner. They are a key piece for the tourist to have a memorable experience," they expressed.

Likewise, the importance of continuous training and professionalization of the sector was highlighted, especially in the face of the challenges posed by an increasingly competitive and demanding tourism market.
The International Tourist Guide Day was established by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) with the aim of highlighting the importance of this profession and promoting quality standards in the service.
On this date, various institutions and associations carry out training and recognition activities to honor the commitment of those who, day by day, show the world the best of their destinations.
