Mescyt highlights Government's focus on training qualified workforce for tourism in Pedernales

San Juan.- The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), Rafael Evaristo Santos Badía, highlighted in this municipality that the focus of President Luis Abinader 's public policies in the south is oriented towards the training of technicians and professionals who will work in the expansion of tourism that is developing in Pedernales. Within the framework of its participation in the XLVII Ordinary Graduation of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degrees of the Universidad Federico Henríquez y Carvajal (UFHEC), Campus San Juan – Las Matas, it was pointed out that acts like these are promoted by the Mescyt as part of the governmental initiative. The official understands that obtaining a university degree is of utmost importance, as it is the key that opens doors to better job opportunities and achieving privileged positions in the business area.

"That is the strategy that has encouraged President Luis Abinader, to focus the main policies on the south; otherwise, let's think who had thought before to build an infrastructure in Pedernales that would generate more than 31,000 jobs," said the official.

He considered that a permanent training should be promoted based on the proclamation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in the sense that education is for life.

In that sense, he recalled that it is a priority for the citizenry that they be provided with support, but that true progress and development have to be the result of a correct public policy.

"It is necessary to have hope, to have faith, but public policies are also needed more than personal adventures," said Santos Badía.

In that order, he reiterated that proper management must go hand in hand with training, education, attracting investments, infrastructure development, generating decent jobs, and improving the quality of life of citizens. He expressed that the route being followed is for that development to impact the provinces of Azua, San Juan de la Maguana, Elías Piña, Independencia, Bahoruco, and Barahona. He explained that every time a group of students graduates, whether from the technical or university level, they are added to a platform, which is shared with the investors who develop tourism in Pedernales to provide the necessary and quality jobs. However, training is not enough, since communication routes are needed to bring people closer to the place of employment, which is why the road that connects Pedernales with Jimaní is being built.
