Police prevent a march prior to a strike call in SFM

San Francisco de Macorís. - The atmosphere heated up this Thursday in the park of the Juan Alberto Espínola sector, after agents of the National Police intervened in an assembly of popular organizations, convened as part of the preliminary activities for the sectoral strike scheduled for next December 1st. The group of organizations, whose identity was not immediately specified, had gathered in the public space to coordinate and promote the day of protest that seeks to draw attention to various social and economic demands in the area.

The presence and subsequent action of the police officers generated an atmosphere of marked tension in the park. Although no direct confrontations or arrests were reported at the close of this edition, the pressure exerted by the intervention motivated the leaders of the group to make the decision to suspend the activity to avoid further incidents.
