Santo Domingo Este.- Mayor
Dío Astacio led the act of the first pickaxe that initiates the works for the construction of inclusive sidewalks and curbs in the Alma Rosa sector. This intervention seeks to strengthen urban order, improve pedestrian safety and dignify public space in the area.
The work will be carried out by the contractor Gelitza Gómez, of the Shelian-F. Dilsa Consortium and is part of the plan for the recovery and organization of public spaces promoted by the Mayor's Office of Santo Domingo Este, aimed at prioritizing pedestrians and moving towards a more accessible and functional city model.
The mayor highlighted that this initiative goes beyond infrastructure construction. "Today we are not just laying concrete; we are laying dignity," he expressed, pointing out that a modern city is not defined solely by its paved roads, but by the respect it guarantees to those who walk on foot.
Astacio emphasized that for years pedestrians were relegated, facing deteriorated sidewalks, obstacles, and unsafe conditions. In that context, he affirmed that recovering the right to walk safely is an unavoidable responsibility of municipal management, especially for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
The deputy mayor Ángela Henríquez, councilors, municipal officials, presidents of neighborhood councils, representatives of development councils, community leaders and collaborators of the council attended the event, who valued the start of municipal works in Alma Rosa and in other territories of the demarcation.
The Mayor's Office of Santo Domingo Este, under the management of Mayor Dío Astacio, reaffirms its commitment to build a city where walking is not a risk, but a guaranteed right; a city designed for people and not just for vehicles.
