If there is an animal that did not yet have a world day and deserves it more than any other, it is undoubtedly the horse. Think about it! Few animals have contributed to human progress as clearly and discreetly as horses. And this deserves special and official recognition.
According to FAO data for 2023, it is estimated that there are more than 60 million horses worldwide. They have plowed fields, contributed to the transport of people and goods, worked as draft animals in mines, won and lost wars, comforted hearts, helped heal many people, and continue to have an important role in human progress.
For all these reasons, the UN General Assembly has proclaimed World Horse Day to be celebrated every July 11. It has done so in Resolution 79/291 of June 3, 2025, recognizing the multiple ways in which these noble creatures have transformed human history: from agriculture and transport to sport and culture, or therapeutic treatments for all kinds of human ailments and conditions.
