Edesur will install a power transformer to improve service

Santo Domingo.- With the aim of alleviating the conditions of overload and the sustained increase in the demand for the electric energy service in the municipalities of Santo Domingo Oeste, Los Alcarrizos and part of the Distrito Nacional, Edesur Dominicana proposes as a solution to install a 24-30 MVA (megavolt-ampere) power transformer, which will guarantee to reduce breakdowns, reduce technical losses and interruptions in the energy service. The installation of the aforementioned power transformer will allow for a more stable energy supply in the sectors of those demarcations over the next three years: 2026, 2027, and 2028. Over the past few years, residents of the area have been affected by interruptions due to overloaded transformers and transmission lines, distribution failures, and corrective maintenance.

Currently, the kilometer 10.5 substation of the Duarte Highway has three power transformers that have a demand projection for this year of up to 106.5 percent of their installed capacity, which affects the service to more than 138,931 residential, commercial and institutional users. The projected situation for the coming years in those communities is a significant increase in demand, exceeding 20 percent of the installed capacity, due to population growth. The commissioning of a new power transformer will reduce the overload conditions of the transformers at the kilometer 10.5 substation, contribute to assume part of the overload of 10 circuits, improve voltage levels and decrease technical losses. Among the areas that will benefit from the initiative are Alameda, Los Peralejos, Los Girasoles, Altos de Arroyo Hondo, Carmen Renata III, Pantoja, Los Alcarrizos, Manoguayabo, Brisas del Norte, Holguín, La Venta, San Benito, Villa Aura, Las Caobas, Las Palmas de Herrera and Don Honorio. These are sectors characterized by sustained demographic growth, intense economic activity and high energy demand. The short-term solution that Edesur Dominicana has proposed to implement is part of its commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of electrical service and the optimization of its infrastructure.
