New York.- The tech giant Apple agreed to pay 250 million dollars to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States that accused the company of misleading advertising by exaggerating the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of its iPhone 15 and 16 devices.
The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in San Francisco, alleged that the Cupertino, California-based company created a "false impression" about the immediate availability and effectiveness of Apple Intelligence, the AI of the bitten apple company. According to the plaintiffs, the company's marketing induced consumers to buy new terminals under the promise of a cutting-edge AI version of Siri that, in practice, did not materialize within the announced deadlines.Apple will pay $250 million to settle a lawsuit over misleading advertising of its AI.
Compensation for users
The agreement, which still needs preliminary approval from a judge, includes compensation for customers in the United States who purchased iPhone 16 models or iPhone 15 Pro versions between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
