Migration reports 1,332 undocumented Haitians apprehended and another 1,168 repatriated

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported this Wednesday the detention of 1,332 undocumented Haitians and another 1,168 repatriated to their country, in operations characterized by coordination with all state agencies that converge in national security policies. The operations were carried out in key areas such as Greater Santo Domingo, where 197 foreigners in irregular condition were detained, 73 in Santiago, 8 in La Vega, 48 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 42 in the East zone, 35 in Azua, 40 in Barahona, 57 in Puerto Plata, 61 in Montecristi and the same number in Dajabón, 56 in Elías Piña, 71 in Independencia and 43 in Pedernales.

The DGM said in a note that 325 captured by Army personnel, 133 by the National Police, and 82 by Cesfront are also added, organizations that, together with the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, Air Force, Ciutran, and Digesett, among others, collaborate closely with the DGM. In the context of deportations, 599 undocumented Haitians were repatriated through the Elías Piña border migration checkpoint, who were handed over directly to their country's authorities. Likewise, 310 people were returned through Dajabón; 149 through Jimaní and 110 through Pedernales. The arrest and repatriation processes were carried out regardless of the nationality of the individuals, complying with the corresponding safety, transportation, care and health supervision standards, minimizing risks and ensuring physical integrity and humane treatment, the information added.
