In an emotional message posted on his social media, Horford expressed his gratitude towards the city and the fans: “From the moment we arrived, they welcomed me and my family with open arms. This chapter in my career will have a special place in my heart. Winning the 18th title with this city will be a moment I will celebrate forever. I am forever grateful to the fans and the team”. According to ESPN, the 39-year-old center will sign with Golden State in the coming days, after the financial terms and the contract situation of restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga are defined. Horford played seven of the last nine seasons with Boston, being a key piece in the conquest of the 2024 championship. In the past campaign, he averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists, with a 36.3% success rate in three-pointers in 5.2 attempts per game. The Warriors consider him an ideal complement to their core led by Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III, and Draymond Green, thanks to his offensive versatility, ability to open the court, and defensive solidity. With 19 seasons in the NBA, Horford remains one of the league's longest-tenured and most productive players. In addition, he is part of a select group of only four tall men in history with more than 900 three-pointers and 1,300 blocks, alongside Rasheed Wallace, Brook Lopez, and Clifford Robinson. His arrival in Golden State marks the beginning of a new chapter in the career of the first Dominican to win an NBA championship, who will now seek to contribute his experience and leadership.
