Santo Domingo.– The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) carried out immigration interdiction operations yesterday in different parts of the country, which resulted in the detention of 1,449 undocumented foreigners and the repatriation of another 1,083 to their country of origin.
The interventions covered provinces and strategic areas such as Santiago de los Caballeros, La Vega, Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, the East zone, Azua (Los Pilones), Barahona, Puerto Plata, Monte Cristi, Dajabón and Jimaní, concentrating the largest number of arrests in Gran Santo Domingo (211), Elías Piña (130) and Pedernales (136).
Within the framework of inter-institutional coordination, the Dominican Republic Army handed over 181 people in irregular condition to Migration, the Specialized Corps of Terrestrial Border Security (CESFRONT) 62, and the National Police 38. The Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran and Digesett, among others, also collaborated in the processes.
Regarding repatriation processes, 626 foreigners were returned through the Elías Piña border crossing, 175 through Dajabón, 100 through Jimaní, and 101 through Pedernales, according to official records. They were handed over directly to the authorities of the neighboring country.
The DGM highlighted that these operations are part of its permanent strategy to ensure compliance with the General Migration Law, prevent crimes associated with irregular immigration, and reinforce security in the border and urban areas of the national territory.
