SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (
DGM) detained 1,647 undocumented foreigners yesterday, in coordinated actions with the citizen security forces and which were carried out complying with due safeguards and without violating the rights of the people.
The operations, within the framework of national laws and international agreements for the protection of immigrants, covered most of the country's urban centers, especially Santo Domingo province, where 251 Haitian nationals in irregular condition were apprehended; 133 in La Vega, 89 in Dajabón, 87 in Santiago and the same number in the East, 49 in Montecristi and 47 in Azua, among other demarcations.
As a product of inter-institutional support, which has reinforced the operational and logistical capacity of the DGM, 401 undocumented individuals captured by the Army, 126 by the National Police, and 51 by Cesfront are also included. Likewise, there was close collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran, and Digesett, institutions that contribute to optimizing migration processes.
On the other hand, the DGM yesterday repatriated 979 Haitian nationals, of whom 407 went through the Dajabón migration checkpoint, 425 through Elías Piña, 80 through Jimaní, and 67 through Pedernales.
Deportations were carried out in accordance with established protocols, respecting the dignity of individuals, complying with national laws and values, and with all the guarantees determined by the international organizations of which the country is a signatory.
The DGM assured that it will continue to comply with the guidelines of President Luis Abinader and the mandate of the National Defense and Security Council, to preserve a safe, fair and orderly migratory environment, and to safeguard the security and integrity of national sovereignty.
