Trump administration fires National Security Council officials

New York.- The Trump administration dismissed more than one hundred officials from the National Security Council (NSC), as part of its plan to restructure the White House's advisory bodies, according to US media reports.

According to the press, an email from NSC Chief of Staff Brian McCormack was sent around four in the afternoon to inform those dismissed that they had 30 minutes to clear their desks - if they were at their workplaces - or to set a date to return their equipment and collect their files and belongings.

Among the employees who were laid off are career officials, as well as hires made during the Trump Administration.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened a meeting with NSC directors last Thursday, which sparked speculation about the reorganization of this body, created in 1947 and which advises the president on national security and foreign policy, media outlets detail today, citing several affected officials as their source.

Composed of foreign policy experts from across the U.S. government, the NSC is often a crucial body for coordinating the president's foreign policy agenda.

However, under the presidency of Donald Trump, the role of the NSC has been reduced and the reform is expected to further diminish its importance in the White House.

Trump removed National Security Advisor Mike Waltz at the beginning of the month, who was highly questioned due to the scandal in which a journalist was added to a Signal platform chat group where U.S. military attacks were reported, and although it was believed that he would be appointed ambassador to the UN, there has been no further news about it.
