New Penal Code receives support from Yeni Berenice

Santo Domingo. The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, positively valued the promulgation of the new Dominican Penal Code, considering that it is aligned with modern trends in criminal law. Reynoso explained that the Public Ministry comparatively analyzed the new legal framework against legislations, jurisprudence and doctrine of different countries, concluding that it represents a significant advance. The prosecutor highlighted the effort of legislators and political leaders who promoted a progressive Penal Code, in line with the advances incorporated in Law 24-97 and other regulations. According to her, despite attempts to regress, reasonableness prevailed in the final decision. He pointed out that this legislative change is the most relevant in criminal matters since 1884, as it not only updates the regulations, but also promotes a vision of justice focused on people, a commitment assumed by the Public Ministry. Reynoso thanked the citizen support and the work of the congressmen who facilitated the approval of the Penal Code. "Every law is perfectible, but this is an important step forward for society," he said. President Luis Abinader enacted on Sunday afternoon Law 74-25, which establishes the new Penal Code of the Dominican Republic.
