Spanish citizen Jacob Pinto, 25, born in Melilla, is one of at least six fatalities of the attack perpetrated this Monday against a bus at a junction at one of the entrances to the city of Jerusalem, according to sources from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE).
Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, has indicated in a press conference from Hungary that the "horrible terrorist attack" has left six fatalities and has stressed that the country "is at war with radical Islamic terrorism", before elaborating that "Europe and the international community, all countries, must make a clear choice: they are on the side of Israel or they are on the side of the jihadists".
Also, the Magen David Adom (Red Star of David) emergency service has indicated on its Telegram account that paramedics have transferred seven people in "serious" condition with gunshot wounds to hospitals in Jerusalem, so it is not ruled out that the number of deaths may increase. Two other people are in moderate condition, while three are slightly injured by the impact of glass fragments.
The Israeli Police has indicated in a statement on its X social media account that the two "terrorists" involved in the attack on the bus have been "neutralized" by a member of the security forces and an armed civilian "present in the area." "Bomb disposal experts are clearing the site and collecting evidence," it stated, before confirming a "large" security deployment in the area. According to information gathered by the Israeli public broadcaster, Kan, the attack was carried out by two armed individuals who managed to board a bus and opened fire on the passengers. The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has emphasized from the scene of the attack that the country "is in a huge war against terrorism on all fronts" and has promised a response from the security forces to the attack, as reported by the Israeli newspaper 'The Times of Israel'.
"Sadly, the war continues in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria --the biblical name for the West Bank--, where we have acted with great force," he pointed out. "The Shin Bet and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have prevented hundreds (of attacks) and the Police have also dismantled hundreds this year, but unfortunately not today," he lamented. In this context, the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has highlighted that it is "a painful and difficult morning" and has lamented that "innocent civilians, women, men and children have been brutally murdered in cold blood and have been injured on a bus at the hands of evil and vile terrorists."
"Faced with this barbarity, we saw extraordinary acts of heroism that prevented a greater loss of innocent lives. This shocking attack reminds us again that we are fighting against absolute evil.
