Yungblud pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at the VMAs

Santo Domingo. - On Sunday night, the VMAs were held, a grand celebration of music, and what better way to do it than with performances by our favorite artists. The awards were a scene of celebration, but also of nostalgia.

The news of Ozzy Osbourne's passing on July 22nd shook the music world. A legend was leaving, shortly after saying goodbye to the stage at the last Black Sabbath show in Birmingham, the place where he was born. The so-called Prince of Darkness had to be bid farewell in a big way, and if anyone could pay him a great tribute, it was Yungblud. The bond between the two was genuine: mutual admiration, respect, and an inspiration that the Briton never hesitated to shout to the four winds.

The tribute began with Yungblud taking the stage, cross in hand - a gift from Ozzy -, ready to pay tribute. "Crazy Train" was the starting point of a medley loaded with nostalgia, which continued with "Changes" and "Mama, I'm Coming Home". For the latter, Steven Tyler made a surprise appearance to further ignite the audience. The closing came with the legendary cry of "Ozzy forever!", as emotions overflowed after the farewell of one of the greats of rock and roll.

Previously, Yungblud released a version of "Changes", recorded live at Black Sabbath's farewell concert, titled "Back to the Beginning", at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, on Saturday, July 5th. The event became the highest-grossing charity concert of all time.

"Changes – (Live from Villa Park) Back to the Beginning", featuring Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Adam Wakeman (Ozzy Osbourne) and II (Sleep Token), is a stunning rendition of the 1972 track, boasting a powerful lead vocal from the 27-year-old British artist, whose recent album 'Idols' reached number 1 in the UK charts, becoming his third consecutive album to achieve this. Delivered in front of over 40,000 fans at the band's home stadium, the performance served as part of an emotional farewell for a group widely regarded as a fundamental force in Rock.

Yungblud released the song as a single, announcing that all proceeds will be donated to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children's Hospice

Speaking about the single, Yungblud said: "This was, without a doubt, the most important moment of my entire life. I was able to go on stage and honor one of my heroes, and the fact that it has touched so many is truly overwhelming."

Added: "The best part about this release is that we get to take such a monumental moment, immortalize it on tape, release it and donate all the money to such important causes like Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorns Children's Hospice. This is what Rock and roll is all about. Stream it, buy it, add it to your playlist, let’s raise a load of money!".

Yungblud's performance on the single received Osbourne's seal of approval, who said: "He did an incredible job. He couldn't have done it better myself." Yungblud shared a video online that captured a tender moment between him and Ozzy Osbourne, before the concert. In the video, the young artist is seen giving Osbourne a personalized jewel. Yungblud is heard saying: "Thank you for everything." (Watch the video HERE).
