Edesur initiates expansion and network improvement plan in the short term

With a cost exceeding 155 million pesos, Edesur Dominicana initiated a short-term plan for the expansion and optimization of electrical networks and infrastructure in various areas of its concession area, with a view to guaranteeing the continuity, stability, and sustainability of the service during the period of greatest energy demand.

The plan covers the intervention in ten electrical substations and the construction of new distribution lines that will allow the company to have an operational margin of more than 30 percent in areas with higher population density. It will also contribute to reducing technical losses between 10% and 17% in the intervened circuits.

With these tasks, the operational stability of the Paraíso, UASD 138 kV, Los Prados, Matadero, Embajador, Centro de Operaciones de Herrera, Palamara, Bayona, Herrera 138 kV and Kilómetro 10½ substations will be strengthened.

Likewise, the execution of corrective works in the distribution networks is contemplated, essential to guarantee operability and minimize the risks of prolonged interruptions due to overload during the coming summer.

The interventions will directly impact approximately 400,000 clients residing in around 70 sectors of the National District and Santo Domingo province.

*The works*

Edesur is working on enabling a second transformation field and two new medium voltage outputs in the Paraíso substation, which will significantly increase its operational capacity.

Also, a new medium voltage output is being built in the UASD 138 kV substation, where it is planned to enable the new UASD108 circuit to redistribute the load of the UASD104 circuit.

The Matadero substation will have a new medium voltage output to the MATA107 circuit, allowing to divide the load of MATA 104 and reduce the demand of MATA103.

In addition, Edesur is building a new transformation field in the Herrera Operations Center substation, where a 10-14 megavolt-ampere (MVA) power transformer will be installed, which will reduce the demand of at least three circuits in the metropolitan area.

On the other hand, work is underway to enable the Alfa substation, located on the Duarte Highway, with a power capacity of 40 megavolt-amperes, which will allow part of the demand from the Kilómetro 10½, Palamara, and Bayona substations to be discharged, by transferring approximately 25.9 MVA.

In Los Prados, the redistribution of load between circuits LPRA102 and LPRA106 is planned, and in the Palamara substation, the energy overload will be managed through the transfer between circuits PALA102, CSAT102, and CSAT103.

With these actions, Edesur Dominicana assumes the responsibility of settling a social debt accumulated over the years, of adapting the distribution network to the demands of a constantly growing population.

As part of the works execution protocol, the company will carry out partial and focused interruptions to ensure the safety of the technical personnel and the electrical installations.

Edesur Dominicana apologizes for any inconvenience these tasks may cause to its customers and the general population.
