COE extends green alert for 6 provinces and the National District due to trough and front system

Santo Domingo.– The Emergency Operations Center (COE) expanded the green alert level for six provinces and the National District this Tuesday afternoon, due to the unstable meteorological conditions expected for the end of the year 2025.

According to the bulletin issued at 5:40 PM, and based on reports from the National Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), the country will be under the influence of a trough and a frontal system, which will provide sufficient humidity and instability to generate moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, especially during the afternoon hours. In that sense, the COE, under Law 147-02 on Risk Management, ordered the extension of the green alert due to the possibility of rising rivers, streams and ravines, as well as sudden or urban floods. The demarcations under green alert are: San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo province, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, La Altagracia and the National District, for a total of six provinces plus the capital.

The agency explained that the green alert is declared when conditions allow for the prediction of a potentially dangerous event for the population, so it urged citizens to remain attentive to official bulletins. Among the recommendations, the COE asked the population to maintain contact with civil protection agencies, such as Civil Defense, Armed Forces, Red Cross, National Police and Fire Departments, through the telephones *809-472-0909, 9-1-1 and 462 of the OGTIC. Likewise, he urged residents in vulnerable areas, especially those living near rivers, streams, and ravines, to "take preventive measures" in the face of possible floods, and warned that "crossing bodies of water with high volume" should be avoided, as well as "not using spas" in the provinces under alert. The COE reiterated that it will continue to monitor the evolution of weather conditions and urged the population to follow only the information issued by official organizations.
