PRM senators question the dismissal of the former ITLA rector after investigative report

Santo Domingo. – Senators from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) considered that the president, Luis Abinader, should have exhausted a more exhaustive investigation process before ordering the dismissal of the former rector of the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), Rafael Félix García. Reactions occur after the dismissal of the former official, which took place six days after the publication of an investigative report that revealed alleged charges of financial contributions from employees of that institution.

The senator for the province of Independencia, Dagoberto Rodríguez, maintained that a decision of that nature should have been preceded by a formal investigation procedure, while appealing to the decency and trajectory of the former rector's family. The position was supported by the senator from Montecristi, Bernardo Alemán, who warned that no official should be removed solely by the pressure of public rumor. However, he pointed out that the president must strengthen the evaluation filters when appointing public servants, given the cases of questioning and complaints that have arisen in recent months. Following his dismissal, Rafael Félix García and members of his family have publicly defended his management of the ITLA, highlighting the institutional achievements made during his administration. However, they have not yet confirmed or denied in a timely manner the allegations related to alleged financial contributions from public employees to a political movement he leads.
