Santo Domingo, RD.– The Dominican Republic's women's sabre team continues to raise its competitive level in preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, following its participation in important international events held in Peru and France.
The national team comprised of Heyddys Ysabel Valentín, Rossy Félix Lara, Maiber De la Cruz, and Melody Martínez represented the country in the Women's Saber World Cup held in Lima, Peru, from May 22 to 24, an event that brought together the main exponents of this modality worldwide.
The president of the Dominican Fencing Federation (Fedomes), Gilberto Soriano, highlighted the relevance of the competition, considered one of the most demanding in the international fencing calendar.
“The participation of our athletes in such a high-level event places them in a privileged position to compete in the upcoming Central American Games Santo Domingo 2026, as they face world-class rivals,” expressed Soriano.
The World Cup featured the participation of 169 athletes in the individual modality and 24 teams in the team competition, also awarding points valid for the world ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
Soriano noted that the current management is working intensely on the international reintegration of Dominican athletes, after the difficulties faced by the federation in recent years.
"It is undeniable that our athletes were affected in their competitive development, which is why we are betting on high-level events to regain lost ground, and the results have been positive," he said.
The Dominican delegation was headed by Glenis Samuel, responsible for accompanying and leading the team during the competition held in Peruvian territory.
Simultaneously, the main figure of Dominican fencing, Violeta Ramírez, saw action in the World Cup held in Saint-Maur, France, as part of her preparation for the upcoming international commitments and especially for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
Ramírez is currently developing his preparation in Italy under the guidance of coach Andrés Carrillo Ayala, accumulating competitive experience against elite athletes on the world circuit.
The Dominican Fencing Federation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening high performance and consolidating a competitive team that will allow the country to aspire to historic results in next year's regional event.
