Washington.- The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, met this Friday in Washington with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, mediator in the negotiations with Iran, before the American president, Donald Trump, makes his decision on the agreement with Tehran.
"The Secretary thanked the Minister for the constructive role that Pakistan continues to play in realizing President Trump's vision of peace in the Middle East and its mediation efforts with Iran," explained State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott in a statement. Both agreed on "the importance of working together to further strengthen a significant alliance that fosters security and prosperity for both Americans and Pakistanis."You may be interested in: Trump says negotiations with Iran are "progressing favorably"
Rubio also expressed his condolences for the attack last Sunday against a commuter train in Quetta, in western Pakistan, in which at least 29 people died and a hundred were injured. The meeting at the State Department took place before Trump meets this Friday in the White House Situation Room with his national security cabinet to, as he said, make a "final decision" on the draft agreement with Iran to end the war that began in February. In a post on the Truth Social network, Trump stressed that the Islamic Republic must renounce the development of a nuclear weapon and must immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which it has blocked in retaliation for the US and Israeli offensive. The White House announced on Thursday that its negotiators reached a tentative agreement with Iran, which is pending final approval from Trump, although Tehran denied having closed a deal.
