SANTO DOMINGO. – FIFA President Gianni Infantino officially congratulated Salcedo FC after winning the Dominican Republic Football League (LDF) championship in its first season in the professional circuit. The congratulation was sent via a letter addressed to the Dominican Football Federation (Fedofutbol), in which the top leader of world football highlighted the historic achievement reached by the Salcedo team after defeating Cibao FC, champion of the last five seasons of the league. In the communication, Infantino also acknowledged the work of the president of Fedofútbol, José Deschamps, highlighting "his continuous support, work and dedication to the development of football in the Dominican Republic." The Salcedo FC championship has been considered one of the biggest recent surprises in Dominican soccer, because the club managed to be crowned in its debut campaign within the LDF. After conquering the national title, the next challenge for the celeste team will be the 2026 Caribbean Cup of Concacaf, a regional tournament that will bring together important Caribbean clubs and that will begin in August. Salcedo FC will compete in Group B along with the also Dominican Cibao FC, in addition to the Jamaican clubs Cavalier FC and Portmore United FC, as well as the Caribbean Shield champion. FIFA has increased its support for Dominican football in recent years, especially with the development of the High Performance Center (CAR) partially inaugurated last February through the FIFA Forward program. The first phase of the project involved an investment of 4.8 million dollars and included two natural grass fields, accommodation areas for national teams, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and training spaces. The second stage of the installations will raise the total investment to about 10 million dollars and is expected to be completed in 2027. The men's and women's national teams have used the CAR as part of their preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, whose football competitions will be held between July 29 and August 8.
