Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.- Singer Pedro Luis Domínguez Quevedo, better known as Quevedo, will receive the Gold Medal of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on June 23, among other personalities and entities, on the occasion of the 548th anniversary of the city's founding.
Although he was born in Madrid 24 years ago, Quevedo grew up from childhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, from where he became known in 2020 and 2021 to the rest of Spain as the most outstanding member of the burgeoning urban music scene in the islands, with viral hits on the internet, such as 'Ahora y siempre' and 'Cayó la noche remix'.
Quevedo not only claims his Canarian identity wherever he can - his latest album, 'El Baifo', is the greatest example of this - but also closes many of his songs with a peculiar 'rapper signature' linked to his city: 'LPGC, you know' ('You know, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria').
The plenary session of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council agreed this Friday in an extraordinary session on the 16 personalities and institutions to be distinguished with the Gold Medal and the titles of Favorite Sons and Adopted Sons in 2026 for their connection with the city.
