During the conversation, held in the prelude to the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Machado explained that wearing the uniform of the Dominican Republic baseball team represents one of the most important moments of his professional career. The third baseman pointed out that, although playing in the Major Leagues with organizations like the Baltimore Orioles or the San Diego Padres has been an honor, representing his country has a different meaning. "When you put on that uniform, everything changes. The energy in the stadium is incredible and you do it for your family, for your country and for all the people who support you," Machado expressed. In the dialogue with Griffey Jr., both also talked about the intensity and passion of Latin American fans during the tournament. Machado highlighted that the atmosphere in the Classic stadiums is unique compared to any other professional baseball competition. "Latin fans experience baseball in a special way. The energy, noise, and excitement in each game make the experience unforgettable," he added. For his part, Griffey Jr., a Hall of Fame member and one of the most emblematic figures in baseball history, highlighted the importance of the tournament for the global growth of the sport and the opportunity it provides players to represent their countries on an international stage.
