DR will host the Forty-First Session of ECLAC in October 2026

Chile.– The Dominican Republic will be the host country for the Forty-First Session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), to be held from October 7 to 9, 2026, in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros.

The Headquarters Agreement for this important event was signed in Chile by Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and the Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Luis Fidel Yáñez. Ministers of Foreign Affairs, other authorities and government representatives from member countries, as well as experts, will participate in this meeting to discuss the main economic, social and environmental challenges of the region.

During the signing ceremony, Chancellor Álvarez highlighted that the choice of the Dominican Republic as the venue for this session reflects ECLAC's confidence in the country and reaffirms the Dominican government's commitment to multilateralism, regional cooperation, and the promotion of policies aimed at the development of Latin America and the Caribbean.

He also emphasized that holding this meeting in Santiago de los Caballeros is of special significance, as it is one of the country's main cities and an important engine of economic, cultural, and academic activity in the Cibao region.

"Holding this session in the north of the country reflects our Government's vision of continuing to promote greater decentralization of development and public investment, driving growth opportunities throughout the national territory," he highlighted.

Minister Roberto Álvarez was accompanied by the Dominican ambassador to Chile, Juan Cohén.
About ECLAC
ECLAC is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations that seeks to contribute to the economic development of Latin America and the Caribbean, coordinate actions aimed at its promotion and strengthen the economic relations of the countries among themselves and with the other nations of the world. The ECLAC Session Period constitutes the main biennial meeting of this organization, in which the member states examine the progress in economic and social development, and define strategic orientations to strengthen regional cooperation. The Dominican Republic currently holds one of the three vice presidencies of ECLAC and it is expected that after the celebration of the Session Period of this 2026, the country will assume the presidency of the organization for the period 2026–2028.
