Direct flights between DR and Venezuela will resume on March 18

SANTO DOMINGO. – The direct air connection between Dominican Republic and Venezuela will be officially reactivated starting March 18, ending a suspension period that lasted for almost two years. The reopening of the routes was authorized through Resolution 24-26 issued by the Civil Aviation Board of the Dominican Republic, which again approved the transport operations of passengers, cargo and mail between both countries.

With this decision, airlines will be able to resume commercial flights that were suspended since July 2024, when the Venezuelan government ordered the closure of airspace with several countries, including the Dominican Republic. Among the first companies to restart operations is LASER Airlines, which will begin operating direct flights between Caracas and Santo Domingo with three weekly frequencies: Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The planned itinerary sets the departure from Caracas at 11:30 a.m., arriving in Santo Domingo at 1:00 p.m. The return flight will take off from the Dominican capital at 2:30 p.m., landing in Caracas at 4:00 p.m. During the suspension period, many travelers had to travel via alternative routes with stopovers in destinations such as Curaçao or other Caribbean countries, which significantly increased costs and travel time. The reactivation will allow the restoration of one of the main air corridors in the Caribbean and will once again facilitate the travel of tourists, merchants, and citizens who use the Dominican Republic as a connection point to other international destinations. In addition to Laser Airlines, other Venezuelan airlines such as Rutaca Airlines, Avior Airlines and Turpial Airlines, as well as the Dominican airline Sky High Aviation Services Dominicana, are expected to progressively integrate into operations once they complete the corresponding procedures before the aeronautical authorities. The measure is part of the process of normalizing relations and air connectivity between both nations, following the agreement reached by their governments to re-establish transport services between the two countries.
