Abinader urges companies to adopt remote work schemes to alleviate economic pressure

Santo Domingo.– Amid the sustained increase in international oil prices caused by the war in Iran, President Luis Abinader urged Dominican companies this Sunday to adopt remote work as a key measure to reduce fuel consumption and alleviate economic pressure on the country.

During a message to the nation, the president highlighted that, although the country is in a position to face this external shock, it will be necessary to implement joint actions between the Government, the private sector and the citizenry. Abinader emphasized that telecommuting represents an effective alternative to decrease daily mobility, reduce the demand for fuels and, consequently, mitigate the impact of the rise in transportation costs.

"Companies can adopt remote work schemes that allow for the optimization of resources and contribute to economic stability in this adverse international context," he said.

The head of state acknowledged that the global energy crisis, stemming from the conflict in Iranian territory, will generate pressures in sensitive sectors such as electricity, transportation, and food. However, he insisted that the Government will assume most of the effort to protect the population.

Likewise, he called on citizens to make more efficient use of fuel, promoting responsible practices that contribute to reducing energy expenditure in homes and in daily life. The Government, as indicated, will continue to implement measures aimed at cushioning the impact of volatility in international markets, while reinforcing its commitment to macroeconomic stability and protecting the purchasing power of Dominicans. The proposal to expand teleworking is thus emerging as one of the main immediate strategies to face the effects of an unprecedented recent global energy crisis.
