The airline Plus Ultra will suspend flights to Colombia due to the increase in fuel prices

Bogotá .- The Spanish airline Plus Ultra will temporarily suspend its flights to Colombia starting on June 2nd due to the "unprecedented increase in the cost of aviation fuel", due to the war in Iran, and other "specific factors" of the Andean country's market, the company reported this Wednesday.

Plus Ultra detailed in a statement that "international air transport is going through an extraordinarily complex situation derived from the conflict in the Middle East", which caused the increase in the price of fuel, "which in some markets has doubled in a few weeks".

«To this global context are added specific factors in markets such as the Colombian one. Among them, a fuel price significantly higher than that of other countries in the region; a high tax and airport fee burden; an increase in structural operating costs or the impossibility of transferring the increase in fuel to tickets already issued», added the information.

According to Plus Ultra, these situations led it to temporarily suspend its flights to Colombia starting June 2 and to reinforce its operation in Caracas, with a fifth weekly frequency starting July 6; Lima, with a seventh weekly frequency from July 14, and Buenos Aires, with a fifth frequency starting July 15.

«Plus Ultra's priority in Colombia is to carry out this transition with the least possible impact on our customers and employees, based on responsibility and compliance with all its obligations. Under this premise, customers will be offered alternatives, refunds or solutions in accordance with current regulations,» added the company.
