SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader confirmed this Monday that the Dominican Government and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are designing new strategies against drug trafficking, which he described as “much more extensive” and “much more profound”.

The leader made these statements during his weekly meeting with the press, La Semanal, although he avoided going into detail, announcing that the plans will be announced "in the coming days."

“I have to admit that yes, we are going to plan much more extensive, much deeper actions… they (the DEA) trust our collaboration quite a bit,” Abinader pointed out.

The Head of State also reported that next Saturday he will hold a meeting with the Foreign Relations Committee of the United States House of Representatives, where the Haitian crisis and other regional security issues will be addressed.

Recent Cooperation with the DEA

The president's statements come days after the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported the seizure of 806 packages of alleged cocaine off the coast of Pedernales. In this operation, agents from the DNCD, the Dominican Navy (ARD), and the Air Force (FARD) participated, with the support of the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF South) and the "DEA", as part of "Operation Lanza del Sur", promoted by the United States Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth. Abinader reiterated that cooperation in security matters between both countries is solid and that the Dominican Republic will continue to reinforce its response capacity against transnational organized crime.
