Santo Domingo.- Retired General Juan Manuel Méndez, remembered for his long career at the head of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), confirmed this Thursday, October 2, 2025, his decision to enter political life, a step he assures he is taking with the conviction of continuing to contribute to the country from another trench.
Méndez explained that, after requesting his retirement from the Army in 2020, he has responsibly assumed his role as a civilian citizen, and publicly reiterated his support for President Luis Abinader's administration, considering that he has developed an "excellent and very good" government for the country.

For now, she said, her priority is to accompany and support the president "as long as he understands it," highlighting that her loyalty does not depend on positions or benefits."President Abinader has been re-elected as constitutional president for a year, and I reiterate my unrestricted support for his government," said the official, who announced that he will later announce his specific political aspirations.
Finally, Méndez called on the citizenry to recognize and value the work of the current government, underlining that Abinader is "a serious, capable president who works 24/7 for the well-being of the population"."I place at the president's disposal the two positions I currently hold, because to defend him I don't need a salary or a budget," he emphasized.
