Santo Domingo.- The business group Midas Dominicana, S.A, in charge of the creation of the new electronic passport for the Dominican Republic, assured this Thursday in a meeting with the media that the country will have the document this year 2025.
The meeting was attended by representatives from its two main partners in the process, Entrust, which is the company in charge of printing the booklets and THALES, who will be in charge of providing the technology to protect the data in the electronic passports."The decision to adopt a biometric passport could not wait any longer. It will become a reality by 2025, I am proud to say that this year we will have the biometric passport in our hands," stated Carlos José Montás, executive vice president of Midas Dominicana.
This scenario was the perfect environment in which they explained all the details involved in the elaboration of a biometric passport with which the Dominican Republic adjusts to the standards that will allow to raise the security levels demanded by this document today.

In that order, they explained that the Dominican State will not have to allocate any resources directly since the investment will be 100% from the consortium and its income will come from the issuance of each booklet. "That is to say that the State will not invest a single cent until the citizen starts paying for their passport," indicated Carlos José. Finally, he stated that "they are prepared to implement this change efficiently, viably, and securely" to close a technological gap in the Dominican Republic and positioning the country as a reference in the region and the world in security regarding the management of personal documents. It is recalled that after a bidding process, the General Directorate of Passports selected the companies Transneg, SRL and Midas Dominicana, S.A, to produce one million 50 thousand machine-readable booklets.
