The current
governor of Puerto Rico,
Jenniffer González, announced this Wednesday the ratification of a legislative proposal that designates the
PR-36 state road, located in
San Juan, with the name of the iconic artist
Daddy Yankee. This initiative seeks to exalt the international footprint of the singer and his close relationship with the popular sector of
Villa Kennedy.
Through an official report,
González emphasized that “Daddy Yankee is one of the Puerto Rican artists with the greatest international significance.” Likewise, the leader underscored the fundamental role of the so-called
“Big Boss” as the great
pioneer of reggaeton and a cultural representative of the first order:
“The ‘Big Boss’ has been a pioneer who has taken the name of Puerto Rico to stages around the world and has opened doors for several performers, both from the reggaeton genre and other Puerto Ricans and Latinos”.

The aforementioned
PR-36 route is located in the capital area and has a direct geographical connection to the public housing project
Villa Kennedy. This was the environment where
Ramón Ayala Rodríguez, the star's real name, spent his childhood years and took his first steps in music with the collaboration of
DJ Playero.
A tribute to his roots in San Juan
The governor of the Caribbean island highlighted that this recognition underscores how a citizen born in that community has achieved unprecedented worldwide fame: "With the designation of this state road, very close to where he grew up in Villa Kennedy, we want to highlight how one of their own is now a musical icon who has filled us with pride and made us all dance," said
Jenniffer González.
The legal process was initially consolidated through the
Joint Resolution of the Senate 115. After the governor's signature, this regulation has become
Joint Resolution 8-2026. According to the specifications of the legal document, the installation of the new signage must be carried out within a maximum time of
30 days after the signing, although the date for the official inauguration ceremony is yet to be defined.
Daddy Yankee, globally respected as
“El jefe” of the urban movement, is responsible for global anthems such as
‘Gasolina’ and the collaboration
‘Despacito’. His professional career was instrumental in establishing
Puerto Rico as the epicenter of Latin music and fostering the commercial growth of the urban genre on the planet.
Beyond commercial success and his new spiritual facet
The artist's relevance goes beyond simple statistics in the popularity charts. His distinctive style and leadership helped reshape the music industry, paving the way for the next generations of urban talent. In addition to his sonic legacy,
Ayala Rodríguez has been involved in various social and business initiatives, establishing himself as a role model in Latin America and the Anglo-Saxon market.
Currently, the interpreter is going through a different stage in his creative life. He has decided to move away from the themes of conventional reggaeton to focus his production on
Christian music, recently publishing compositions that show this personal and spiritual evolution.
It was in
December 2023 when
Daddy Yankee officially announced his conversion to Christianity. The announcement came at the end of his farewell tour in his homeland, where he expressed his intention to end his commercial career to dedicate his life to faith. During an emotional concert in
Puerto Rico, the artist argued that he was answering a divine call and that this new path gave him a sense of life superior to that of his successful previous career.
From that moment on, the ex-reggaeton artist has disseminated multiple messages regarding his inner transformation through digital platforms and interviews. This determination represented a radical turn in his public image, provoking diverse reactions among his millions of followers and the musical environment, reaffirming that his social impact endures beyond the reggaeton stages.
